About this camp

GeneLab for High Schools (GL4HS) is a virtual, intensive training program sponsored by NASA's Ames Research Center. It offers high school students a unique opportunity to delve into space life sciences with a strong focus on omics-based bioinformatics research. Students learn to analyze complex biological data, such as genetic codes, and apply computational biology methods. The program covers NASA space biology research, omics-based research, bioinformatics techniques for analyzing omics data, and the application of these analyses to NASA Space Biology science. Participants also develop competitive team experimental proposals based on data from the GeneLab Data Repository and enhance their formal oral presentation skills. The program emphasizes hands-on experience with real NASA space biology data and provides networking opportunities with university professors and industry experts.

What a typical day looks like

The program is largely self-paced with on-demand training modules, supplemented by optional open office hours and a mandatory synchronous Capstone Orientation session for those opting for the Capstone Project.
