About this camp

The UC Berkeley Engineering Summer Machine-learning & AI Research Training (BeSMART) is a two-week residential program designed for high school students. It provides foundational skills in data analytics, machine learning, Python programming, and advanced AI applications through a blend of lectures and hands-on lab sessions. Students work with real datasets and apply their new skills to a final project of their own interest. The program aims to equip students with the ability to understand how AI algorithms work, manipulate raw data, and verify results, moving beyond just using AI tools. In addition to academic rigor, participants experience college life by living in campus dorms, dining at Cal cafeterias, and interacting with UC Berkeley undergraduate and graduate students. The program also includes opportunities to visit Berkeley student labs and Silicon Valley companies, fostering an immersive learning and college preparatory experience.
