BSAS offers a unique opportunity for high school students to gain practical, project-based experience in cutting-edge science and engineering fields at a top-tier university, including visits to Silicon Valley companies.
The Berkeley Summer Academy of Science (BSAS) is an intensive 2-week in-person program at UC Berkeley's College of Engineering, designed for high school students interested in a STEM college experience. The program combines lectures and hands-on laboratory sessions, allowing students to gain practical experience in science and engineering. Participants will learn scientific foundations, develop ideas into executable designs, and build their own prototypes for a completion ceremony. The 2026 theme, "Foundations of Modern Science," focuses on Quantum (quantum materials, superconductivity), Optics & Lasers (electromagnetic spectrum, optical fibers, metamaterials), Semiconductors (phases of matter, band theory, optoelectronics), and Quantum Tech (quantum computing, sensing, communication). Students will also visit Berkeley student labs and Silicon Valley companies, interact with UC Berkeley students, and strengthen their college applications. The program is limited to 36 students.
Each day consists of classes divided into two parts: a morning lecture followed by an afternoon lab session.
This program is ideal for high school students (ages 15-17) with a basic understanding of STEM and an interest in exploring prototypes and design, particularly those interested in quantum, optics, lasers, semiconductors, and quantum technology.

Bay Area STEM Summer Camps is a free directory service that aggregates publicly available information about STEM programs, summer camps, and educational opportunities. We do not operate, sponsor, endorse, accredit, certify, or have any affiliation with the camps and programs listed here unless explicitly stated.
All program details — including pricing, session dates, instructor credentials, curriculum, safety policies, refund terms, transportation, meal arrangements, and admission requirements — are sourced from publicly available information and may be incomplete, outdated, or incorrect. Listings are partially generated and updated using automated AI-assisted research, which can occasionally produce inaccurate details. Parents and guardians are solely responsible for independently verifying every detail directly with the camp before enrolling, paying, or relying on any information shown here.
